Founded in 1993, the American Foundation of Savoy Orders, Incorporated, is a United States not-for-profit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose philanthropic work in North America and around the world is generously supported by the members and friends of the American Delegation of Savoy Orders. The Foundation was formed primarily to provide support for hospitals and relief agencies and assistance for the poor, sick, and elderly. These charitable and humanitarian purposes are in keeping with the centuries-old hospitaller traditions of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus. Contributions to the Foundation and its charitable projects are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. In 2005, the Foundation became a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Roster Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. This important role enables the Foundation to participate in the medical, poverty and educational work of the United Nations. It also provides an excellent opportunity to form strategic alliances with the international philanthropic community with which the Savoy Orders are already active.
