Reception in the Garden and Buffet Dinner in the Auditorium Following Lecture
Comm. Marco Grassi, Chairman of the Foundation lecture series has announced that the Seventh Annual Savoy History Lecture is confirmed for the evening of Monday, October 26, 2009, at 6:00 PM at the Abigail Adams Smith Auditorium (Colonial Dames of America), 417 East 61st Street, between First and York Avenues. It will be a joint event of the American Foundation of Savoy Orders with the St. George’s Society of New York.
The topic –“The House of Savoy, Thirteenth Century England and the Mediaeval European Community” - will focus on the Savoy family’s high level presence in England in the 13th and 14th centuries. Dr. Christopher Tyerman, MA, D. Phil., who is lecturer in Medieval History at Hertford College and New College, Oxford will be the speaker. Some of his recent publications include: "God's War: a New History of the Crusades," "England and the Crusades," and "Fighting for Christendom: Holy War and the Crusades."
Following the lecture, there will be a reception in the garden at the rear of the Colonial Dames Museum (next to auditorium) and a buffet dinner in the auditorium catered by “Bistro 61.” More information to follow. |
