SAVOY FOUNDATION PRESENTS $40,000 CHECK TO DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS FOR HAITI EMERGENCY RELIEF EFFORTS
Savoy Foundation President Knight Commander Marco Grassi and Chairman Knight Grand Cross Carl Morelli, Esq. presented a check in the amount of $40,000 to Jennifer Tierney, the Development Director of the New York office of Doctors Without Borders, on April 26, 2010. The funds were raised for the Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund from a general appeal to the members and friends of the American Foundation of Savoy Orders to help the people of Haiti.
Mr. Grassi said: “The Savoy Foundation’s philanthropic mission is to mobilize resources and support for the Foundation’s initiatives to provide emergency funds to disaster relief organizations. With the tragic recurrence of disasters around the world, we must be prepared to offer aid in a timely manner.” The Foundation has contributed funds to the Doctors Without Borders for Haitian Earthquake Relief, the Italian Red Cross for L’Aquila Earthquake in Italy, and to the Diocese of New Orleans for Katrina Hurricane Relief.
Mr. Morelli, who is also the Delegate for the American Delegation of Savoy Orders for the North America, added: “The Foundation’s activities are primarily supported by the knights and dames of the American Delegation, continuing a 1000 year old tradition of hospitaller care and help to the poor, sick and helpless. We are proud to be able to provide this contribution to further the humanitarian relief work of Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. Providing medical assistance has always been primary mission of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy.”
