Jacqueline Weld Drake Chairperson, Casita Maria As Chairman of The Casita Maria Center for the Arts and Education, the oldest Hispanic charity in New York, Ms. Weld Drake has long been at the center of the Latin American community. Indeed, Casita Maria is now in its 90th year providing quality programming to children and families. Jackie presides over a multicultural board and is responsible for its annual Fiesta fundraiser. In addition, she presided over the construction of a state-of-the art facility in the South Bronx in collaboration with the Board of Education, with performance, studio and recording spaces to better serve the community. In collaboration with American Ballet Theater, Ms. Weld Drake helped create Dance Arriba!, a special performance event featuring the great Latino stars of Ballet Theater, including Paloma Herrera and Angel Corella at New York’s legendary Apollo Theater, and the subsequent Dance Arriba! which was presented on stage at the Metropolitan Opera. With its Bronx Culture Trail and its in house programs Casita Maria serves over 1,000 youth a year; as well as 15,000 youth, families and community members. |
